What do people get out of joining a community choir?

Delicious Sounds Choir in Southampton can be demanding and even exposing - but it also creates a cracking good ‘alchemy’ of sound, says choir leader Fiona Funnell.

Fiona dropped into our studio to talk about it all: what it’s like to sing a cappella harmonies, how singers support one another musically, and how the choir’s history has led to performances by torchlight in some very unusual places.

For Fiona, it’s all about seriously fun singing.

“It’s like magic, when it really works,” she says. “It’s quite exhilarating.”

Listen to Fiona talking about her choir - and others in Southampton in this interview. She even treats us to a short vocal performance of her own composition, ‘Find joy in small things’.
