Listen: At Home with the Spiraltones#2 from 2012
Featuring local bands The Spiraltones, 猫老師 (Neko Roshi) and Old Culture, and poet Matthew West

This recording is a lot of fun!
We pushed the boat out following our first live transmission, this time featuring a line-up of guests, as well as resident group The Spiraltones.
Castle Spiraltone, in the very heart of Bitterne Park, was graced with more or less acoustic sets from special guests 猫老師 (Neko Roshi), Old Culture and poet Matthew West.
This is part of our mission to bring back the recordings of all of our live shows (there were only three!) from around 14 years ago which have long been absent from our main website. This show went out in May 2012.
At the time we described them as ‘podcasts’, before podcasts were a really big thing. Really they were a quite ambitious effort at early live audio streaming.
Adam and Jim making it all work
On some there were hacking attempts, and on others the stream ‘dropped’ for a period, but the recording at least went on, and the artists’ fantastic renditions were punctuated with wry links by Colin McAllister, of Southampton Ukulele Jam fame. He took the whole idea of a DIY ‘live show’ and ran with it.
Meanwhile it came together technically with invaluable help and facilities from a number of people across the series: we salute you 🙏.
We’re hoping to include the final broadcast of the period in subsequent posts on digest+ soon, so look out for them here.
This recording is free to listen using the player below, but please consider subscribing to our digest+ channel for other more recent audios including interviews with local figures, our most regular newsletter offering links to all our latest news stories, and to support bitternepark.info.

Enjoy!
